POLER is an acronym for the Path of Least Resistance, which guides our market philosophy. Sometimes this path is well-established, and at other times its uncertain or changing.
Sometimes there are subtle clues to the direction in which a particular market is most likely to move. For example, from its price reaction to news or events.
We seek to discover the path of least resistance and follow it, provided that there is an asymmetrical opportunity for the risk taken.
Technology is used extensively both in R&D and in Trading. We have coded a robust system built upon open source frameworks.
Yet, technology is not everything. We value human insights, particularly in selecting where to focus.
We like to describe ourselves as AI-enabled. That is, Augmented Intelligence. Enhancing human analysis with tools and code.
Fully automated trading can bring subtle perils, such as from data snooping. We believe, however, that both risk and trade management are best coded due to human biases and the potential for emotional distortion.

Tom started out in emerging market finance in London in the 1990s. Thereafter he was a strategy consultant at Accenture, and CFO for two companies before moving into trading 15 years ago.
He likes to figure out market drivers, which often are changing. Tom has a BSc in Economics and an MBA from London Business School.

Rui is a self-taught programmer with 20+ years in IT and 12 years of trading experience. Previously he founded an IT company with operations in Europe and South America.
He brings to the table a knowledge-seeking and creative problem solving mindset, with a view to originality in implementation.
